Character name: 長曾我部元親 (Chousokabe Motochika)
Fandom: Sengoku Basara series
Canon Point: Gameverse -- Sengoku Basara 3/Samurai Heroes: After the blue route and into the green.
History: SamuraiWiki article -- Wikipedia Article -- Sengoku Basara Wikia Article
In Sengoku Basara 3 (Samurai Heroes), the intro (when you choose to play Motochika) shows a battle taking place in the sea. A few seconds in, Yoshitsugu Otani is shown chatting in a room within a battleship with one Motonari Mori. What they speak of is very vague, and it can be assumed that they are planning something. Fast-forward a bit and you see Motochika commanding his men to attack back their attackers.
It then advances to a narrative, explaining that when Motochika and his men came back to Shikoku (the land he rules), they see it in shambles. It seems to have been invaded. After going through all the rubble, Motochika comes across a flag bearing the Tokugawa mon. This immediately lead Motochika to believe that his long time friend, Ieyasu, was the one responsible for this. Depending on which path you take, the story and its ending are different.
In his default path, RED, Motochika allows his rage to consume him and vows to put an end to Ieyasu. Basically, he has a one-track mind and refuses to listen to reason. At the end of this path in Sekigahara, he ends up killing his old friend.
His secondary path, BLUE, Motochika is still enraged at what happened but this time, he attempts to get help in destroying Ieyasu. It would immediately lead to him searching for an old friend, "Sayaka." At the end of this skirmish, Sayaka attempted to reason with him, told him not to jump to conclusions, and to seek out answers without raising his arsenal first. (Not before getting a smack in the head by her, asking if he was done with his "little tantrum.") She advises him to head north and seek out Masamune, and further tells him to not be foolish while she does what she can to find out what's happening with everyone else. During this path, his men receive word that Ieyasu had just allied with the Hojo clan. At this point, there is the option to either go see the Hojo clan at Odawara Castle or go to Ueda Castle where Masamune is. Continuing on the blue path leads to Odawara Castle to speak to Ujimasa Hojo. Giving his situation to the old man, he is told to just talk to Ieyasu in Mikatagahara. Here, Ieyasu swears that he did not attack Shikoku and he would never do such a foolish thing. Sayaka later makes an appearance and informs them that the one responsible is Kanbei Kuroda. Ieyasu comes along with Motochika to exact his revenge. Unfortunately, Kanbei informs the two that he was forced to do this bidding and had no choice in the matter.
His tertiary path, GREEN, is an alternate path within the BLUE path in where Motochika does go to see Masamune (instead of Ujimasa Hojo) at Ueda Castle to find out the truth. After a bit of small talk, Masamune advises him to see and ask Ieyasu himself. When he arrives in Mikatagahara, Ieyasu tells him firsthand that he had nothing to do with invading Shikoku and swore it on their friendship which he holds precious. During that time, "Sayaka" makes an appearance and informs the two of them that there are three people who are responsible: Mitsunari Ishida, Yoshitsugu Otani, and Motonari Mori. Upon learning this, Ieyasu offers to assist Motochika and he immediately accepts. Arriving at Osaka Castle to exact revenge on his fallen brothers and comrades, Ieyasu advised Motochika that something so dishonorable as this is not something that Mitsunari would do and to direct his anger towards Yoshitsugu. Once he has faced Mitsunari, Mitsunari honestly had no idea that this had happened and said that he would take full responsibility for what they had done, for they had also played him for a fool. He gives his sword to Motochika to kill him. But Motochika does not, as he said that he cannot kill the righteous. He tells Mitsunari to either come with him (to Hasedo Castle) or stay behind but live well. At the end of this path, Motochika finally meets and settles the score with Motonari Mori, saying that Motonari would die and not be remembered because of all the sins and trickery and deception he committed. Motochika would then kill Motonari.
In either the blue or green path, Motochika shows remorse in having given in to his rage and not trusting Ieyasu in the first place. He knew in his heart that this was something Ieyasu would never do, and he ignored reason and his heart.
Personality: Keeping in mind that Motochika is a pretty much a pirate, the very first thing one would notice about him is his speech pattern. We can attribute this with him being a noble since he is the ruler of Shikoku. Contrary to what we're used to with pirates, Motochika actually is well-poised with his language and speech patterns. This part of his personality also seems quite different from his anime counterpart, who supposedly speaks informal Japanese.
We can also note that Motochika is quite a protective person. He is quite protective towards his men and gets along with them so well that his own men call him "aniki," which literally translates to "older brother." It is this that makes his men proud of who and what they are and who they serve and they are fiercely loyal to Motochika, as he is to them. He is, of course, quite protective of his friends as well. No matter what the situation, Motochika has your back. And he will be there when you need him.
Deception and trickery are also something that Motochika loathes, and finds such tactics to be dishonorable. He believes that honesty is important, as he is honest himself. Motochika does not seem to be the type of person to lie through his teeth. I believe this is because of his sense of honor, which can also be attributed to him not killing the people who he believes to be righteous. See history section about his not killing of Mitsunari Ishida. Because of that, Motochika also seems to be a good judge of character. He knows when people are good, and he knows when people are bad.
But like everyone else, Motochika also bears character flaws. One of his biggest and probably most prominent flaw is his temper. When he found his home, Shikoku, in ruins, he was beyond furious. They were pretty much attacked from the back. And when he found the Tokugawa mon amidst all the rubble, he immediately thought it was Ieyasu's doing and got on a one-track mind train to seek him out and destroy him without listening to reason and without considering why he did such a thing. Of course, friends like "Sayaka" would make him realize that there is always more to what meets the eye.
On the contrary, Motochika also knows when he is guilty of something. And he will try to do all he can to alleviate the situation. In the case of going with guns ablazing with Ieyasu without knowing the actual facts, he felt absolutely terrible that he blamed him without gathering all the information first and would needlessly beg for forgiveness. Perhaps he may not be this way with everyone. But because he and Ieyasu are very good and are probably close friends, he would.
Powers/Abilities: Motochika is able to wield (one-handedly) a huge anchor with chains. It is probably twice the size and weight as he is and yet he can easily swing it around to subdue his opponents. And because Motochika is assigned the element of fire, some of his weapons flare up in flames.
